Google has been well in the news for the past couple of weeks, owing to the fact that the internet search giant
has launched some new services such as Google E-Books, The first ever Chrome OS laptop, Cr-48 and Cloud Print Beta. The company however does have its focus towards the Android platform as just recently features for the updated Google Maps for Android were released. Now, Google brings the highly popularPriority Inbox to Android.
So what exactly is the Priority Inbox? It is a service that Google launched back in August, which automatically flags messages that Gmail believes will interest the user most. The Priority Inbox is no doubt a great feature, and it substantially cuts down time that users spend while reading email, but it wasn’t available on the Gmail app for Android, however, now that has been changed.
Probably every Gmail user knows how Priority Inbox works; messages in the inbox that Gmail thinks are important are tagged with arrows in the normal ‘inbox’ view and if the user wants to specifically look at these very important messages, they can switch over to the Priority Inbox label, which can also be set as default.
The updates brings other new features as well, such as the user can now tell Gmail to notify (via a vibration or sound) whenever they receive messages in their Priority Inbox; however spam and normal or less important messages won’t actually activate the alert. Options like ‘reply all’ are now easier to select.
However, this particular update requires Android 2.2, so it remains a fact that not everyone will be benefiting from this update. If you’ve tried out this new Gmail upgrade on your Android device, let us know what you think about it in your comments below.
