Apple Directs Developers Not To Submit Demos In The Mac App Store

It is no speculation that Mac OS users all around the world are anxiously waiting for the launch of the Mac App
Store. It can easily be said that the Mac App Store will function along the same lines, upon which the iOS App has been running for quite some time now. The App Store will feature both free and paid apps. However people shouldn’t expect Apple to introduce a new demo category with the launch of the Mac App Store, as Apple is certainly not letting this happen at any cost.
As previously said, Apple will not be launching a new demo category simultaneously with the launch of its Mac App Store, and to establish this permanently, Apple has now told developers that the company will not be accepting demos, trials or betas for the Mac App Store review.
This was posted by Apple on their Developer News Portal, where the company has said that it will only be accepting feature complete versions of apps. Apple says:
Your website is the best place to provide demos, trial versions, or betas of your software for customers to explore. The apps you submit to be reviewed for the Mac App Store should be fully functional, retail versions of your apps.
This move that Apple is making, is certainly strange as by telling developers to host demo and trial versions of their apps on their own websites, Apple just be end up losing out on the revenue that is generated by customers who prefer to try apps before they buy them. So logically, if a customer downloads a demo from the maker’s own website, he’ll definitely be heading back to that website, or either the software will present a link in itself, and at the very end of the day, Apple will end up losing its 30% commission.
Do you think Apple is making the right move? Let us know your answer in the comments below.
