Google is all in the news these days, and why shouldn’t it be, because day in and day out, we are witnessing
new and innovative products being launched by the internet search giant. Now here comes something was has for long been anticipated. Google has finally launched the Chrome OS, and this is the very first Chrome OS Laptop.
This unbranded laptop is called the Cr-48, and it will run on Google’s all new Chrome OS. These laptops will be distributed by Google through its Chrome OS Pilot Program, which would be sort of in public beta, meaning that people wanting to get their hands on this device would actually have to apply for joining the program.
However, only a limited number of the Cr-48 laptops will be available, Acer and Samsung will be making available the retail Chrome OS models from the middle of 2011. Google happens to be doing a number of promotions, albeit at a very small scale to give away the devices to interested users and businesses which will then in turn provide feedback to the company about the Cr-48, which means that there is no way to acquire the device by spending money.
The specs of the Cr-48 look promising, at least for a device that is destined to run the brand new Chrome OS, these specs include:
- 12.1-inch screen.
- Full size keyboard.
- Oversized clickpad.
- Qualcomm Gobi 3G chip for Verizon data in the US, your carrier of choice internationally.
- 802.11n dual-band WiFi.
- 8+ hours of active use.
- 8+ days of standby.
- Webcam.
- Flash storage.
This is no specific design or logo on the device itself and just comes in plain black color, so for this it can safely be assumed that Google does not intend to make the Cr-48 a mass market device in any case. Let us see when the reviews come in, in order to find out how exactly does the Cr-48 delivers when it comes to functionality.
