yesterday we saw the launch of Google Chrome OS and the first ever laptop to run on that very operating system, theCr-48. However, it was known that apparently Google was working on another new feature along with the Chrome OS, and it was called Cloud Print. Now, it looks like the beta service is about to kick off.
So what exactly does Google Cloud Print do? Well it wouldn’t be that hard to decipher as the name itself is self explanatory. This is a service that will take all printer drivers that one would need on a computer and will put them in the clouds, or in other words, Google’s servers.
So what would be its purpose? Well, this would allow users to easily print from a machine regardless of the OS, meaning that they will be able to print from Chrome OS or from any mobile device, and from the looks of it, it seems like this service is about to kick off soon enough. There is already a live landing page online for Google Cloud Print and it will also let users print a test page.
However, one drawback of the beta is that currently prospective users will need to have Windows 7, Vista, or XP to use it; however it claims that Mac and Linux support will be added soon, so basically, the user needs to have a Windows PC connected to a printer to set it up with the service.
Google Cloud Print just might prove to be a huge success, as the world is now steadily moving towards “living in the cloud” and with what this particular service is going to offer, it seems like it could well make an impact with people all around the world.
