and it seems like this tug of war between companies offering location based services isn’t going to cool anytime soon, as Gowalla has also launched its new update. However, now Loopt is gearing up to launch version 4.0 of its own location-based application for the Apple iPhone. This update promises to bring a whole new set of features to this particular application. Read on below to find out more.
Loopt 4.0 for the iPhone brings a refreshed design and an updated feature set that hopes to make it easier for users to find their friends and places. The new Loopt is said to be using a social filter for places as it provides users information along with data on where their Loopt and Facebook friends have been, so as to show the user places of social relevance.
This new update also brings a new option, which is called the “inner circle” option, which the user can use to select friends that they automatically want to share their location with. This feature gives the user implicit location-sharing options so that they can easily and seamlessly share their location with a select group of friends without having to check in to those particular locations.
CEO Sam Altman and co-founder Sam Altman elaborates:
We continue to work at surfacing interesting information that makes Loopt like x-ray vision, where you can see through city walls and find something compelling, whether it’s being alerted that an old friend is nearby, or that there’s a café around the corner frequented by friends
Another brilliant feature in Loopt 4.0 is the Ping/Pong feature, which gives users the ability to send location-based text messages via the Ping features and they can be replied back to with location as well, meaning it’s a simple location-based texting feature.
Currently, this update is for the iPhone only, but the company has said that it will be launching a similar version for Android as well. All of the features look promising enough, let us see how Loopt 4.0 performs.
