Tumblr users heave a sigh of relief as the popular blogging network has now finally returned to the web, after it was
down and out for one whole day. Tumblr users have experienced the worst down-time in history as the whole network was inaccessible throughout the entire 24 hours, leaving behind the high user base of the network in darkness. Read on below to find out what exactly happened.
Tumblr is no doubt one of the most popular blogging platforms that exist on the internet today, so for users to panic when they can not access their precious blogs, seems pretty legitimate as many users weren’t even sure of the fact that their posts would be saved or not after this black out. The blogging network went down yesterday afternoon, when things went drastically wrong during planned site maintenance. Tumblr has said that it experience some database cluster issues during that maintenance which inevitably led to the outage.
The official company blog elaborates:
Yesterday afternoon, during planned maintenance that was not intended to interrupt service, an issue arose that took down a critical database cluster. This brought down our entire network while our engineers worked feverishly to restore these databases and bring your blogs back online.
Tumblr has been getting some serious attention, and has for sure become one of the best places for people and their creative expressions. So much so that traffic for all Tumblr-powered blogs has hiked up to a staggering number of over 500 million pageviews per month, at least that is what Tumblr states. The company is focusing on its infrastructure as of now, considering the fact that it has been steadily increasing the size of its engineering team.
