Samsung Nexus S Released; Brings Android 2.3 Gingerbread

Android phones have been very well accepted in the market as recent surveys have shown that this mobile operating system from Google
is all set on the path of dominance. It was in November 2008, that the first Android phone was rolled out into the market, and what generally attracted people towards Android was its relative openness as compared to other mobile platforms. Now an estimated number of 200,000 Android devices are activated each day and it seems like Google has no plans of slowing down any soon. Now Google announces the Nexus S, the latest mobile product which features the brand new version of the Android platform, Gingerbread.
Nexus is the first device that will be shipped with Gingerbread/Android 2.3. The Nexus S was co-developed with Samsung which has ensured tight integration of hardware and software to highlight the superb functionality of the Android platform. The Nexus S will give users a “pure Google” experience by allowing the using unadulterated access to Google’s best mobile services and Android updates.

  • 1 GHz Cortex A8 (Hummingbird) processor
  • 16GB of built-in iNAND flash memory
  • 4-inch Super AMOLED Contour Display curved glass screen
  • 5 megapixel rear camera and front-facing VGA camera
  • Near Field Communication (NFC)
  • Assisted GPS (A-GPS)
The Nexus S can be purchased in the United States through Best Buy on December 16, where it will be available unlocked and without a contract for $529 while it will be available for $199 with a contract. In the U.K. the Nexus S will be available in Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy UK stores starting December 20, A SIM free Nexus S will cost £549.99 or with a £35 tariff per month.
