Myspace has been the reigning social network of its time but has lost out due to the immense popularity Facebook and Twitter
have gained in such a remarkable short span of time. However, not losing heart, the company still looks for new ways to progress, considering the fact that Myspace was recently relaunched, and now the company seems to be working on its mobile strategy.
Myspace relaunch brought a couple of new things to the network, specifically the new logo and the company’s resolve to build the social network into a social entertainment destination. Now, the company has announced that it has launched a new mobile website as it wants to extend its social entertainment experience to all mobile devices that exist in the market.
Myspace’s mobile strategy is referred to as a two-pronged approach. CEO, Michael Jones elaborates:
We are creating the best experience for Myspace mobile web users by taking the most compelling entertainment elements of Myspace.com and making them portable, while simultaneously building a portfolio of independent mobile applications tailored specifically to entertainment categories
The new mobile website allows users to share photos, videos, links, status updates and features all sorts of entertainment news, videos etc, however, The Myspace iPhone app hasn’t been made public yet, and it is being said that it will be released in a couple of weeks. The app is unique in its own way as it will automatically update a user’s stream with updates from any specific band, whose music the user has loaded on their iPhone. Both, the iPhone app and the new mobile sites won’t require users to log in.
Even though Myspace does get considerable amount of visitors, it can not be denied that it is indeed losing traffic to competitors like Twitter and Facebook, which are the current giants of the social networking arena. Let us see how this update helps Myspace.
